Head of Production

Red Shoe Productions wish to recruit a Head of Production, on a full-time basis. With a number of factual series about to commence production, we are now looking for an experienced candidate to oversee all our production activities and to support the creation of original, high quality, award-winning content. This role will include managing the current slate and guiding those projects through the production process.


About Red Shoe Productions:

Red Shoe Productions is an award-winning independent television production company based in An Rinn, Waterford and servicing multiple broadcasters including RTÉ, TG4 and Sky Arts. For almost two decades Red Shoe have specialised in arts, documentary, music, and live-production work, predominantly in the Irish language.


Our recent slate of output includes: Voices of Ireland (Sky Arts) Fleadh Cheoil (RTÉ) Imeall (TG4)

About the Role:


This is a senior level opportunity for an experienced individual who has the energy and passion to help us grow the company.


Reporting to the Company Director, and liaising with our Development, Finance and Post-Production Heads of Department, the Head of Production will oversee all projects on the slate and act as a key decision-maker and liaison between Red Shoe, funders and broadcasters.


The Head of Production will also have responsibility for all organisational aspects of pre-production right through to post-production across all TV productions. Applicants must have strong budgeting and financial skills - ensuring that all productions run smoothly, meet deadlines, and stay within budgets. You are a level-headed, natural multi-tasking talented communicator and will have production managed a number of series, across genres.


This blended working role offers opportunities for remote working while reporting to our head office in An Rinn, Waterford.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all projects from pre-production through to post-production

  • Create production budgets and shooting schedules and ensure productions stay on schedule and within budget

  • A confident negotiator, you will oversee the hiring of key freelance crew and preparing crew contracts

  • Ensure quality of shoots and provide regular feedback to entire crew

  • Perform research tasks and select shoot locations

  • Troubleshoot problems that arise during production

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, codes of practice and health and safety laws

  • Manage teams and promote a positive work environment, where inclusivity is a priority

Required Experience / Skills:

  • Minimum five years' experience producing television programmes across multiple genres (or equivalent credits as main producer)

  • Fluency in Irish is desirable

  • Ability to prioritise workload and be willing and able to change focus from one project to the next as required

  • An in-depth understanding of other production team roles and responsibilities

  • Knowledge of new technologies and advancements to help identify efficient and cost-effective ways of working

  • Experience working in live broadcasting is an advantage

  • Proficiency regarding the use of archive or copyrighted material in productions

  • Ability to handle financial responsibility

  • Excellent planning and multi-tasking skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

  • A strong network of production industry contacts

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Full driver’s licence
