Following
on from their successful collaboration in 2006 with ‘Match’,
Emmy Award winning Director Dearbhla Walsh and Choreographer
Fearghus Ó Conchúir make a welcome return
to RTÉ’s Dance on the Box series with ‘Mo
Mhórcoir Féin’ - a short film about
faith.
Set in the familiar environment of a Catholic church, the
film explores the uncomfortable role of the body within
the contemporary Irish church. Carefully choreographed and
thought-provoking dance sequences shed light on the dark
shadows of the church, to a hauntingly emotive soundtrack
by Iarla Ó Lionáird .
The dancing body is sculpted by light, creating connections
between it and the carved religious images of the church,
as the body remembers and speaks in a way that can be more
powerful than words.
‘Mo Mhórchoir Féin’ confidently
uses the language of dance to contribute to the current
complex debate on the devotee's experience of the church
in Ireland.
‘Mo Mhórchoir Féin’ is a Red Shoe
Productions film for The Arts Council and RTÉ, conceived
and choreographed by Fearghus Ó Conchúir,
produced by Maggie Breathnach and directed by Dearbhla Walsh.
