GRADAM CEOIL
TG4, 2015-2021
D’athraigh Red Shoe Productions Gradam Ceoil TG4 ó choirm ceoil réamh-thaifeadta go clár bríomhar beo dhá uair a’chloig. Léiríomar an Gradam Ceoil ar feadh cúig bliana – ag tosú ó 2015 go 2017 in Áras Ceoldráma Chorcaí, agus ansin d’aistríomar ó Thuaidh i 2018 go halla an Waterfront i mBéal Feirste, gníomh a bhí uaillmhianach agus a thug ceoltóirí traidisiúnta an Tuaiscirt is an Deiscirt le chéile gan aon Teorann eatarthu.
I measc na mbuaicphointí ba mhó, thugamar breis is 100 ceoltóir ar stáitse le linn an chláir bheo, fuairemar físeáin comhghairdeachais go rúnda ó réalta idirnáisiúnta mar Linda Ronstadt agus Emmy Lou Harris - iad ag tréaslú dár nGradamóirí - agus chuireamar leis an gcaidreamh tras-phobail i dTuaisceart Éireann. Chruinnigh laochra an cheoil traididisiúnta le chéile don seó beo, iad ag teacht ó chuile áit in Éirinn, agus ó Londain, Páras, Madrid, Dún Éidinn agus Nua Eabhrac chun ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar "Oscars" an cheoil traidisiúnta.
Tá clú domhanda ar ár gceol traidisiúnta agus é mar chuid lárnach dár n-íomhá cultúrtha mar thír atá ealaíonta agus cruthaitheach. Bunaíodh Gradam Ceoil TG4 i 1998 chun ceiliúradh a dhéanamh agus meas cuí léiriú ar cheoltóirí, cumadóiri, amhránaithe, bailitheoirí agus daoine eile atá ag saothrú ar son an cheoil Ghaelaigh. Tá Gradam Ceoil TG4 aitheanta anois in Éirinn agus thar sáile mar an phríomh-ócáid i bhféilire bliantúil an cheoil traidisiúnta, le coirm cheoil spleodrach stáitse mar bhuaic le crème de la crème an cheoil traidisiúnta - idir cheol uirlise agus amhráin - a cheiliúradh. Rinneamar forbairt ar chlár d’imeachtaí seachtracha “Fringe” freisin chun deireadh seachtaine le himeachtaí teaghlaigh agus ceardlanna a chur ar fáil don phobal áitiúil.
Go dtí seo, tá Gradaim Ceoil bronnta ar chuid de na ceoltóirí is iomráití dá bhfuil againn agus tháinig a gcairde ceoil chun seinm leo beo ar stáitse. I measc na n-uaisle ceoil seo tá Paul Brady, Liam O’Flynn, Martin Hayes, Dónal Lunny, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Catherine McEvoy agus Brendan Mulkere.
Red Shoe Productions transformed the Gradam Ceoil from a pre-recorded concert to a two hour live TV broadcast. We successfully produced the Gradam Ceoil for five years, 2015 - 2017 from the Cork Opera House, and then moving to the Waterfront in Belfast in 2018, a bold and adventurous move that has seen the unification of traditional musicians both North and South of the Border.
Highlights include more than 100 musicians taking to the stage during the live show, surprising an award recipient with a video recording from international stars Linda Ronstadt and Emmy Lou Harris and contributing to cross-community relations in Northern Ireland, Traditional music legends from all over Ireland, London, Paris, Madrid, Edinburgh and New York arrive annually to enjoy what is known as the "Oscars" of traditional Irish Music.
Our living tradition is renowned across the world as a core element of Ireland’s identity and image as a creative and cultural nation. Gradam Ceoil TG4 was established in 1998 to honour, celebrate and give due appreciation to outstanding performers, composers, singers, collectors and others who play a prominent role in this most vibrant and accessible of Irish traditions. Here in Ireland and further afield, Gradam Ceoil TG4 is now acknowledged as the premier national traditional music event and the jewel in the traditional music calendar which takes the form of an annual gala concert and awards ceremony to celebrate the crème de la crème of Irish traditional music and song. Complimenting the awards ceremony, the Fringe Events Calendar has grown and provides a family weekend of events and workshops, with contributions from industry and music experts.
To date, the biggest and best-known Irish and international names in traditional music have been awarded and/or performed at the Gradam Ceoil – Paul Brady, Liam O’Flynn, Martin Hayes, Dónal Lunny, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Catherine McEvoy, Brendan Mulkere
